A much more pleasant sailing day, sun came out and we had the spinnaker set from lunchtime allowing us to make good speed up to dinner time. We were given something of a jolt by the news that colleagues onshore had calculated that our spinnaker-less sail set up would see us coming in second in our racing division, as opposed to the first place expectation to which we had become accustomed!
Now for the evening and night watches we have stashed the spinnaker, perhaps learning the lessons from Saturday night’s trials and tribulations! I just spent a few minutes hauling the spinnaker down into the galley and being instructed on how to stow it properly – hot work in this weather!

Last night’s sailing was much calmer than the day before and we made good speed on a direct course heading for St Lucia. With the spinnaker set today we have had to sail slightly downwind and therefore a few degrees off course, but we will correct this during the night as we will just have the jib set.
Nautical miles to destination is now 892 as of 20h30 on Monday evening and we are all in good spirits as we prepare for the nights’ watches. I will be on the 12-3 and 6-9 watches, but at least ot means I can go back to sleep in the morning!
